Term 1: What Do We Celebrate?

Our enquiry this term is ‘What do we Celebrate?'. In this term we will then learn about different celebrations from bonfire night, Halloween and birthdays and also celebrations within religions such as Diwali, Eid, Chinese New Year and Christmas. We will hold a Diwali day and will be creating clay diva lamps, making and trying chapattis and getting messy painting fireworks! We touch on how we have changed into the season of winter and what this looks like in our world. We will learn a variety of new Christmas Nativity songs and perform them at our Christmas show!

In phonics, we will be learning new sounds and Common Exception Words. We will continue to take books home to read. Please read your picture/decodable book three times and log this into your reading record for it to be changed on Friday. We will be writing simple words and captions. We will continue to build on our fine motor and handwriting skills with weekly handwriting lessons and activities. In Literacy, we will continue with Drawing Club using key texts such as Potion Commotion, Rama and Sita, How to Catch a Dragon, Mince Spices and more!

In mathematics, we will be continuing to recognise numerals to 10 and counting to 20. We will be identifying 2D shapes and comparing these shapes in the environment. We will be exploring the compositions of numbers 1-5 and subitising 4 and 5. We will be using the language of ‘more’ and ‘less’ to compare two sets of objects.
