Where the learning journey is an adventure

Curriculum Information

Curriculum Intent

We are proud of our curriculum, which is broad and balanced, inclusive, creative and challenging. It is designed to promote curiosity, enthusiasm and reflective thinking, producing independent lifelong learners who are 21st  century global citizens.

In order to achieve these goals, we provide a stimulating and interactive environment with a focus on high academic standards and personal growth. Children begin their learning journey in the EYFS which provides our children with the foundational skills & knowledge to succeed throughout the key stages.

Learning is designed to promote diversity, inclusion and equality. Children begin by learning about their personal history and locality, whilst celebrating our diverse city of Bristol. They then build on this knowledge to enable them to understand the UK and the wider world.

This is all achieved through high quality teaching and learning, which includes incorporating trips, visits and other adventurous experiences.

We aim to ensure that pupils who attend WTLA leave as well-rounded individuals, having fulfilled their academic potential and having developed excellent social skills. Our curriculum has been developed to achieve this, by ensuring continuity and progression throughout the children’s learning journey. Consequently, essential knowledge, skills and a rich vocabulary are embedded, in order for the children to make excellent progress. Learning is tailored to suit the needs of our pupils by knowing our pupils well and understanding their needs and strengths.

Pupils at our school have access to incredible grounds and outdoor spaces, which are used to enhance their learning experience. We offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enable pupils to discover hidden talents. We guide them in their learning journey; instilling good habits of respect, adventure, determination, achievement and resilience.

We are a ‘Gold – Rights Respecting School’ and teach children to respect individual’s rights all around the world.
